For use as a pain reliever in the treatment of joint pain and post-surgical pain.
Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the propionic acid class that includes ibuprofen, naproxen, and ketoprofen. It is no longer used in the clinical setting, but is approved for use in dogs. Carprofen is non-narcotic and has characteristic analgesic and antipyretic activity approximately equipotent to indomethacin in animal models.
Anti-Inflammatory Agents, Non-Steroidal
Anti-inflammatory agents that are non-steroidal in nature. In addition to anti-inflammatory actions, they have analgesic, antipyretic, and platelet-inhibitory actions. They act by blocking the synthesis of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase, which converts arachidonic acid to cyclic endoperoxides, precursors of prostaglandins. Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis accounts for their analgesic, antipyretic, and platelet-inhibitory actions; other mechanisms may contribute to their anti-inflammatory effects. (See all compounds classified as Anti-Inflammatory Agents, Non-Steroidal.)
Photosensitizing Agents
Drugs that are pharmacologically inactive but when exposed to ultraviolet radiation or sunlight are converted to their active metabolite to produce a beneficial reaction affecting the diseased tissue. These compounds can be administered topically or systemically and have been used therapeutically to treat psoriasis and various types of neoplasms. (See all compounds classified as Photosensitizing Agents.)
Absorption
Rapidly and nearly completely absorbed (more than 90% bioavailable) when administered orally.
Hepatic.
Approximately 8 hours (range 4.5–9.8 hours) in dogs.
The mechanism of action of carprofen, like that of other NSAIDs, is believed to be associated with the inhibition of cyclooxygenase activity. Two unique cyclooxygenases have been described in mammals. The constitutive cyclooxygenase, COX-1, synthesizes prostaglandins necessary for normal gastrointestinal and renal function. The inducible cyclooxygenase, COX-2, generates prostaglandins involved in inflammation. Inhibition of COX-1 is thought to be associated with gastrointestinal and renal toxicity while inhibition of COX-2 provides anti-inflammatory activity. In an in vitro study using canine cell cultures, carprofen demonstrated selective inhibition of COX-2 versus COX-1.

A Carpaquin manufacturer is defined as any person or entity involved in the manufacture, preparation, processing, compounding or propagation of Carpaquin, including repackagers and relabelers. The FDA regulates Carpaquin manufacturers to ensure that their products comply with relevant laws and regulations and are safe and effective to use. Carpaquin API Manufacturers are required to adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to ensure that their products are consistently manufactured to meet established quality criteria.

A Carpaquin DMF (Drug Master File) is a document detailing the whole manufacturing process of Carpaquin active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in detail. Different forms of Carpaquin DMFs exist exist since differing nations have different regulations, such as Carpaquin USDMF, ASMF (EDMF), JDMF, CDMF, etc.
A Carpaquin DMF submitted to regulatory agencies in the US is known as a USDMF. Carpaquin USDMF includes data on Carpaquin's chemical properties, information on the facilities and procedures used, and details about packaging and storage. The Carpaquin USDMF is kept confidential to protect the manufacturer’s intellectual property.

A Carpaquin CEP of the European Pharmacopoeia monograph is often referred to as a Carpaquin Certificate of Suitability (COS). The purpose of a Carpaquin CEP is to show that the European Pharmacopoeia monograph adequately controls the purity of Carpaquin EP produced by a given manufacturer. Suppliers of raw materials can prove the suitability of Carpaquin to their clients by showing that a Carpaquin CEP has been issued for it. The manufacturer submits a Carpaquin CEP (COS) as part of the market authorization procedure, and it takes on the role of a Carpaquin CEP holder for the record. Additionally, the data presented in the Carpaquin CEP (COS) is managed confidentially and offers a centralized system acknowledged by numerous nations, exactly like the Carpaquin DMF.
A Carpaquin CEP (COS) is recognised by all 36 nations that make up the European Pharmacopoeia Convention. Carpaquin CEPs may be accepted in nations that are not members of the Ph. Eur. at the discretion of the authorities there.

National Drug Code is a comprehensive database maintained by the FDA that contains information on all drugs marketed in the US. This directory includes information about finished drug products, unfinished drug products, and compounded drug products, including those containing Carpaquin as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API).
The FDA updates the NDC directory daily. The NDC numbers for Carpaquin API and other APIs are published in this directory by the FDA.
The NDC unfinished drugs database includes product listing information submitted for all unfinished drugs, such as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), drugs intended for further processing and bulk drug substances for compounding.
Pharmaceutical companies that manufacture Carpaquin as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) must furnish the FDA with an updated record of all drugs that they produce, prepare, propagate, compound, or process for commercial distribution in the US at their facilities.
The NDC directory also contains data on finished compounded human drug products that contain Carpaquin and are produced by outsourcing facilities. While these outsourcing facilities are not mandated to assign a Carpaquin NDC to their finished compounded human drug products, they may choose to do so.
